What to Expect

Isla Mujeres docking fee is in fact a federally imposed tax used to maintain the docks and beaches in good condition. Don’t worry, this is not a shady payment or a scam to take advantage of visitors. Undoubtedly, all official and established companies have to pay for it.

By paying these taxes (Isla Mujeres docking fee), you can be sure that you are using the services of a company that cares about the care of marinas, docks, beaches and reefs.

This service is only valid for clients contracting our tour to Isla Mujeres.

What is it for?
Dock Fee

The dock tax is used to keep ports and beaches in good condition. The money collected with this tax is aimed at maintaining the infrastructure of piers, marinas and public areas on the beaches and creating preventive measures.

Some of the tasks carried out from this tax are for example:

  • Repairs and preventive work in marinas and docks for daily use and in the event of natural disasters as a result of hurricanes and storms.
  • Inspection of tour operators (or tour companies) to ensure that they comply with the regulations and recommendations for visitor safety and environmental care.
  • Construction of larger wastewater treatment plants to cope with a large number of tourists.
Reef Tax

The money from the reef tax goes to the trust, which in turn is used to purchase parametric insurance that will protect the reefs and beaches after damage caused for example:

HURRICANES AND STORMS

  • The winds push the sea towards the land and carry away the sand. To solve this, beach recovery works are required.
  • Coral reefs are damaged by having to withstand the pressure of the tides.

TOURISM IMPACT

  • Chemical damage when entering the sea with sunscreen.
  • Physical damage when touching corals and marine fauna.
